What is the difference between cold rolled steel and hot rolled steel?
Jan 17 , 2022Cold rolled steel is one the main raw material of industrial warehouse racking systems.
What is the difference between cold rolleded steel and hot rolleded steel?Totally in three ways:
1. They are essentially different:
(1) The essence of cold rolled steel: cold rolled steel is the steel produced by cold rolleding. Cold rolleding is to further thin the steel plate to the target thickness at room temperature.
(2) The essence of hot rolled steel: hot rolled steel is a kind of steel rolleded above the recrystallization temperature.
2. They have different characteristics:
(1) Characteristics of cold rolled steel: the thickness of cold rolled steel plate is more accurate, and the surface is smooth and beautiful. It also has various superior mechanical properties, especially processing properties.
(2) Characteristics of hot rolled steel: during hot rolleding, the metal plasticity is high and the deformation resistance is low, which greatly reduces the energy consumption of metal deformation. Hot rolleding can improve the processing properties of metals and alloys, that is, the coarse grains in the casting state are broken, the cracks heal significantly, the casting defects are reduced or eliminated, the as cast structure is transformed into deformation structure, and the processing properties of alloys are improved.
3. The processing requirements of the two are different:
(1) Processing requirements of cold rolled steel: cold rolled steel requires high mill power and low rolleding efficiency, and intermediate annealing is also required to eliminate work hardening in the rolleding process, so the cost is also high.
(2) Processing requirements of hot rolled steel: hot rolled steel is easy to rolled and has high rolleding efficiency. The hot rolleding temperature includes start rolleding temperature and finish rolleding temperature. The start rolleding temperature is mainly determined according to about 80% of the solidus temperature in the alloy phase diagram, while the finish rolleding temperature is determined according to the plasticity diagram of the alloy. Generally, it is required to be controlleded above the recrystallization temperature of the alloy.
2、 Applications of cold rolleded and hot rolled steels:
1. Application of cold rolled steel:
Cold rolleded sheet and strip are widely used, such as automobile manufacturing, electrical products, rolleding stock, aviation, precision instruments, food cans, etc. cold rolled steel sheet is the abbreviation of common carbon structural steel cold rolleded plate, also known as cold rolleded plate, commonly known as cold plate, which is sometimes mistakenly written as cold rolleded plate. Cold plate is a steel plate with a thickness of less than 4mm made of hot-rolleded steel strip of ordinary carbon structural steel after further cold rolleding.
Due to rolleding at normal temperature, there is no iron oxide scale. Therefore, the cold plate has good surface quality and high dimensional accuracy. Combined with annealing treatment, its mechanical and process properties are better than hot-rolleded steel sheet. It has been gradually used to replace hot-rolleded steel sheet in many fields, especially in the field of household appliance manufacturing.
2. Application of hot rolled steel:
(1) Structural steel: mainly used for the production of steel structures, bridges, ships and vehicles.
(2) Weather resistant steel: added with special elements (P, Cu, C, etc.), it has good corrosion resistance and atmospheric corrosion resistance. It is used in the production of containers and special vehicles, as well as building structures.
(3) Automotive structural steel: high strength steel plate with good stamping and welding properties, which is used in the production of automotive frame, wheel, etc.
(4) Hot rolleded special steel: carbon steel, alloy steel and tool steel for general mechanical structure are used for the production of various mechanical parts after heat treatment engineering.
(5) Cold rolleded raw plate; It is used to produce various cold rolleded products, including Cr, GI, color coated plate, etc.
(6) Steel plate for steel pipe: with good processability and compressive strength, it is used to produce high-pressure gas pressure vessels filled with LPG, acetylene and various gases with a content of less than 500L.
(7) Steel plate for high-pressure vessel: it has good processability and compressive strength. It is used to produce high-pressure gas pressure vessel with content less than 500L and filled with LPG, acetylene and various gases.
(8) Stainless steel plate: stainless steel has good corrosion resistance. It is mainly used in food industry, surgical equipment, aerospace, petroleum, chemical and other industries.
